Ahead of the 2019 general elections, Most Revd Paulinus Ezeokafor, the Catholic Bishop of Awka Diocese, Anambra state, on Sunday, February 11, asked Nigerians not to vote for politicians above 60 years of age.
According to The Punch, the bishop described such politicians as a “burden on the growth and development of the country,” adding they ought to have quit active politics at such an age.

The Catholic bishop speaking in Awka, Anambra State, wondered why candidates who retired from service would want to pilot the affairs of the country.
He said: “I can’t understand why retirees would want to seek political offices. Such people are a burden to growth.
“I urge Nigerians to stop electing such people. 2019 is crucial in our history. We should vote wisely; we should avoid voting for retirees.”
While condemning Christians who speak ill of government but would fail to participate in election processes, he urged christians to ensure active participation during the next election.
The clery insisted that the only way to vote out the wrong people during elections was to be fully involved, such as by obtaining the permanent voter card and casting one’s vote during elections.

Earlier, NAIJ.com reported that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Thursday, February 8, said that Nigerians who engaged in double voters registration
will be liable to one year imprisonment.
Ndidi Okafor, the INEC’s head of Voter Education and Publicity, Gender and Civil Society Liaison, FCT, made this known in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja.
Okafor, who quoted from section 117 of the Electoral Act, said: “It is an offence for people to register twice’’.
