- The attack happened at about 10am when worshipers were returning from church service
- The attackers were said to have jumped out of the bush, shooting and killing four people in the process
- A woman was also injured in the attack and is receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital
Not fewer than four people have been killed by gunmen who invaded Bakin Kogi village in Jema’a local government area of Kaduna state on Sunday, February 11.
An unnamed source told Punch that the incident occurred at about 10:00am just as worshipers were returning from Sunday church service.
The source, Punch reports, said a woman was also seriously injured and is currently receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital in Kafanchan, the headquarters of the Jema’a Local Council.
According to the source, the victims were coming from where they went to tap palm wine when they met their sudden death.

The source said: "We heard gun shots at about 10:00am when we were coming back from the church.
“The victims, four in number, went to tap palm wine. It was on their way back that they were ambushed and killed.
“They died instantly, while a woman was severely injured. She was rushed to a hospital in Kafanchan where she is receiving treatment at the moment.”
Another eyewitness, a resident named James Aboki, said the gunmen invaded the village from an outskirt, shooting at anyone in sight.

Vanguard's report of the timing of the attack coincided with Punch's but it had indicated that members of a nearby church were mostly the victim of the attack.
It also claimed that the gunmen were suspected to be herdsmen and they ran into nearby bush after the attack.
The Punch also claimed that the attackers were suspected herdsmen but Kaduna state spokesman ASP Mukhtar Aliyu, could not confirm this as he was awaiting full details of the attack.
Meanwhile, reported earlier that a Delta state local government council has concluded plans to ensure that all herdsmen grazing their cattle
in that area of the south-south region carry proper identification.
According to reports, to be allowed to graze their herds within and around Ughelli South local government area of the state, herdsmen must now carry identity cards.
The new practice which begins today, February 11 includes taking of biometrics and receiving of identification cards of the herdsmen who are willing to ply their trade in the area.
