ABUJA — The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, said, yesterday, it had been mandated to provide special security for the Federal Government’s proposed cattle colonies, expressing its resolve to discharge its mandate creditably.

Commandant General of the Corps, Abdullahi Muhammadu Gana, stated this at the decoration of 57 of the newly promoted 3,983 staff of the NSCDC in Abuja, yesterday.
He said: “We have been given the mandate to provide security to cattle colonies, ranches or whatever you may wish to call them.
“Already, we have a 5,000-strong Agro Rangers Squad, who are saddled with providing security for agro-allied investments and cattle colonies.
“I am happy to say that we have resumed in some of the states and we have deployed personnel in at least 40 farms. We are waiting for the Federal Government to establish either the colonies, ranches or reserves. We are ready to provide the security.”
Addressing the newly-decorated officers, the C-G urged them to see their new ranks as a challenge, urging them not to fail in their duties to the nation.
A member of the Civil Defence, Fire, Immigration and Prisons Services Board CDFIPB, Maj. Gen. Emmanuel Bassey (retd), who represented the Interior Minister, Abdulrahman Dambazau, counselled those who were not among the newly-promoted not to see themselves as inferior.
He said aside from merit and discipline, the issue of available vacancies and quota system was also considered in promoting the personnel.
“Promotion is a privilege because you might meet all the criteria for it and yet you may not be promoted for reasons bordering on available vacancies and national spread or quota system,” he stated.
Among the senior officers decorated were the Corps’ spokespersons, Mr Soji Alabi, Emmanuel Okeh and Shola Odumosu who were individually elevated to the next rank of Deputy Commandant of Corps DCC.
