The Punch is reporting that Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau has made an appearance in a fresh video released today, January 2, 2018.
According to the report, Shekau claimed Boko Haram was responsible for series of attacks in northeast Nigeria during the festive season.
The Punch reports that Shekau spoke in the Hausa language in the in the 31-minute video message.
He said: “ We are in good health and nothing has happened to us.
“Nigerian troops, police and those creating mischief against us can’t do anything against us, and you will gain nothing.
“We carried out the attacks in Maiduguri, in Gamboru, in Damboa. We carried out all these attacks.”
The New Telegraph reports that the video also showed footages from a Christmas Day attack on a military checkpoint in Molai village on the outskirts of the northeast Nigerian city of Maiduguri.
This comes just as reported that the Nigerian Army denied that five soldiers were killed by insurgents in a surprise attack on a military base in Yobe at the close of December 2017.
The Guardian quoted ‘a credible top security source’ as saying that five soldiers were found dead and evacuated to Maiduguri and about 30 others could not be immediately accounted for after the attack.
The report further quoted an eyewitness Bukar as saying that the attackers struck the base in seven Toyota Hilux vans.
