Yola – Tension has again engulfed residents of Numan Local Government Area of Adamawa State following the killing of four police officers by herdsmen on the early hours of Friday.
Source from Numan revealed that four police officers were killed by persons suspected to be herdsmen at a village near Numan the local government headquarters.
Reports have it that the attack is a reprisal attack on one of the villages that is believed to have been responsible for the killing of their members.
According to the reports, the police men rushed to the area following a “save our soul appeal that Fulani herdsmen had mobilized and spoiling for a fight”.
Unknown to the police, on reaching the place, the herdsmen engaged the police in a shoot -out where four of the policemen were reportedly killed while figures have not been given as casualties on the other side since herdsmen do not leave their dead behind.
It was also gathered from reliable sources that soldiers have been drafted to the area to arrest the situation and presently combing the area for the fleeing herdsmen.
Meanwhile, Police spokesman, S.P.Abubakar Othman has confirmed the attack and told our correspondent that following the rumours of the attack, people are leaving the area including Numan for safety in safer areas.
He also confirmed the killing of the policemen debunking rumours that no Police man was missing at the scene as being insinuated.
It would be recalled that following the killing of two brothers on their farm, by people suspected to be herdsmen, the villagers said to be Bachama extraction launched an attack on the herdsmen where women and children were killed on November 20, this year.
Since then there have been rumours of an impending reprisal from the Fulani herdsmen.
