Primary and secondary school teachers in Bayelsa state would soon be compelled to take an assessment test
- Governor Seriake Dickson has disclosed that a bill would soon be sent to the state House of Assembly, to that effect
- The test would rate their ability to teach, and would form part of their qualifications for holding such jobs
The Bayelsa state government is perfecting plans to conduct a mandatory assessment test for teachers in the state’s primary and secondary schools, Punch reports.
The development was made public by the state governor, Seriake Dickson, while declaring open a two-day meeting of the Joint National Public Service Negotiation Council in Yenagoa, the state capital. gathers that the governor’s media aide, Francis Agbo, in a statement released on Wednesday, November 22, disclosed that the governor would soon forward a bill to make it compulsory for teachers to undergo the assessment in order to qualify to teach, to the state House of Assembly.

He stated: “A bill will be forwarded to the state House of Assembly to make it compulsory for teachers at the primary and secondary school levels to undergo some forms of assessment as part of their qualifications to teach in the state.”

Meanwhile, previously reported that copies of the test conducted for 33,000 primary school teachers in Kaduna state were released on social media after 21,780 of them failed
In the copies released, it could be seen that the questions set were based on primary school studies to assess the ability of the teachers.
According to Governor El-Rufai, many of the teachers would be redeployed across the state to balance the issue of teacher-pupil ratio.
