The traffic gridlock on Apapa-Oshodi expressway has now turned into a haven for hoodlums who attacked people at night and dispossessed them of valuables. The long queue of trucks and fuel tankers stretch from second rainbow bus stop along the expressway till Apapa port.
The hoodlums usually hid between the parked vehicles and whenever unsuspecting commuters attempted to cross from one side of the expressway to the other, the hoodlums pounced on them and attacked them with guns, knives, cutlasses and other dangerous weapons while robbing them of money and valuable items.

Staff of Vanguard newspapers who close for work in the evening have become perennial victims of these criminals. On Thursday evening after they closed from work and were on their way home, these hoodlums attacked them in their staff bus and even smashed the windscreen of the bus.
Aside the activities of the hoodlums, the drivers of these trucks have also turned the highway into public toilet as they defecate in the drainage and any available space on the expressway.
Only last weekend, Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo undertook an aerial view of the gridlock in a helicopter to have a firsthand experience of the problem. But he needed to have been on ground to really appreciate the agony of the people who must make use of the expressway on a daily basis.
